    Description

This is a New lathe crotch center, tailstock drillpad. It is used to cross drill small holes in round bar stock or tubing using your lathe as a drill press. This goes in your tail stock and the drill bit goes in your head stock chuck. The tail stock is slowly and carefully turned pushing the stock into the drill in your head stock. These have been around for years and are shown in South Bend's "How to Run a Lathe" book. They were a favorite of jewelers and hobbyists for years. You should limit the size of your holes. I always use a center drill to start off as they are very rigid and do not flex. I always finish the holes off in a drill press with vise. This item is approximately 3 inches in diameter. The V is approximately 1 inch wide with a 1/16" slot at the bottom. It is about 1-1/4" thick of solid steel. The center is threaded 1/2-20 for an arbor. This has a threaded on #2 Morse Taper arbor with tang included. This unit is solid and heavy at just over 3 pounds. The V-block has two 1/4-20 threaded holes on each side of the V-groove for a clamp plate. The clamp plate and hardware as shown are included. These are very handy as the arbor can be removed and it can be used as a common bench block.
Obviously you should not be using this for large diameter holes. Or go crashing thru the stock carelessly.
Used carefully and with common sense the V will center a cross hole in small diameter round stock. Made in the USA in a Small New Hampshire Basement Shop.
